1. Who writes this site
Pages are written and maintained by the cliniccheck editorial team. We are researchers and writers, not clinicians. Nothing here is a clinical opinion, and we do not review anyone’s individual case — see the medical disclaimer.
Because we are not clinicians, we do not tell you whether a procedure is right for you. What we do is narrower and, we think, more useful: we show what a treatment costs in each country, what the local regulator actually requires, and what to verify before you pay a deposit.
2. Which sources count
Every factual claim about regulation, safety or clinical outcome is sourced to a primary authority, and the sources are listed at the foot of the page so you can check them yourself. In practice that means:
- UK regulators and bodies — NHS, NICE, GMC, GDC, HFEA, CQC, BAAPS, BAPRAS, BOA, RCOphth.
- Government guidance — GOV.UK, FCDO travel advice, and the destination country’s health ministry.
- Accreditation bodies — Joint Commission International, ISO, and national licensing registers.
- Peer-reviewed literature and professional-body guidance where an outcome or complication rate is quoted.
Clinic marketing material is not a source for anything except that clinic’s own claims about itself, and it is labelled as such.
3. Prices
Prices on this site are indicative ranges collected from published clinic pricing and patient-reported figures, not quotations. They exist to let you sanity-check a quote you have been given, and they move. We say what a price typically includes and excludes, because the exclusions are where the surprises are. We never present an indicative price as an offer, because we do not sell treatment.
4. Review cycle
Every treatment, destination and checklist page carries a visible “last updated” date and is reviewed at least every six months, or sooner when a regulator changes its guidance, the FCDO changes its travel advice, or a reader tells us something has moved. Guides are re-checked when the underlying prices or rules change rather than on a fixed schedule.
If a page has not been reviewed recently enough for its subject matter, the date will tell you. We would rather show you a stale date honestly than refresh it to look current.
5. What we will not publish
- Paid placements, sponsored listings or advertorial. There is no way to buy a listing or a position.
- Affiliate or commission links to clinics. We earn nothing from whether you contact anyone.
- Star ratings or reviews of clinics we have not independently verified — so, currently, none.
- Before-and-after imagery, which is unverifiable and is used almost universally to mislead.
- Success rates or complication rates without a citable source.
A listing on cliniccheck is not an endorsement. It means the clinic exists and we have recorded what we could verify about it. The verification work is still yours to do, which is what the checklists are for.
6. Handling uncertainty
Where the evidence is thin or contested, we say so rather than picking a side and sounding confident. Where a country’s rules are genuinely unclear, we say that too, and point you at the body that can answer it. Confident-sounding text on a medical subject is easy to write and occasionally dangerous.
7. Corrections and independence
